Sensory Awareness Day:
Christmas!

Enjoy a special day at Chester Zoo with themed activities and garden walks.

On four days throughout 2010, Chester Zoo will be running themed activities for all visitors, when you can enjoy tours and activities with a British Sign Language interpreter and a visual describer.

December’s event will have a Christmas theme.

The day will include a guided tour of the Zoo, a chance to meet the staff, a ride on the monorail and free time to enjoy the Zoo’s Christmas offering.

Back By Popular Demand:
Bats!

Visit the Twilight Zone and its inhabitants by torchlight.

Admission to the Zoo from 2.30pm with a hot pot supper served in the Oakfield Manor at 5.00pm.

Guests are then escorted (torches essential!) to the Twilight Zone, where the keeper will be on hand to explain about all the many fascinating species of bats, including the Livingstone bat – which has a wing span of over one metre!

Talking About The Animals:
A Roaring Event

Team Leader Alan Woodward talks about the animals in his care.

One of our keepers featured in Zoo Days, Alan Woodward – Team Leader of Carnivores, gives an interesting and informative talk on the various animals in his team’s care.

Price includes admission into Chester Zoo from 2.30pm, with tea and coffee served at 5.00pm in Oakfield Manor.

The talk begins at 5.30pm and is followed by a hot supper, with the evening concluding at approximately 7.30pm.

Victorian Harvest Weekend
@ Stretton Watermill

Victorian Harvest Weekend

A day out for the whole family.

Join the Stretton millers for the last open weekend of the year and help celebrate a Victorian style harvest.

There will be period music from local musician Roy Clinging, and chances to help with apple pressing and butter making.

See displays of traditional harvest tools and make your own straw dolly!

Visitors can also have a taste of some traditional harvest fayre, and play some old-fashioned games.

The events and activities are free this weekend, with a nominal charge for those wanting a guided tour of the working mill.

10/10/10: 50 Years of The Weirdstone of Brisingamen

This exhibition marks the 50th anniversary of the publication of Cheshire author Alan Garner’s The Weirdstone of Brisingamen.

The book, which has never been out of print, is based in Cheshire’s Alderley Edge and this is a fantastic opportunity to discover the story, the Wizard Legend, Alderley Edge and the life and works of Alan Garner.

There will be examples of archaeology from Alderley Edge, and objects that inspired Alan’s writing.

This exhibition will also be the first public opportunity to see the portrait of Alan Garner by BP Portrait Award winner Andrew Tift, commissioned specially for this show.
