Chester Christmas Lights Switch On – 11th November 2010

This year’s Chester Christmas Light switch on takes place in the city centre on Thursday 11th November 2010 from 5 to 6.45pm.

Chester city centre will be filled with entertainment  from 3pm onwards on Thursday 11th November. There will be a Christmas parade and the lights will be switched on at 6.30pm at Eastgate Street, by the Lord Mayor, Lady Mayoress and, of course, Father Christmas.

Warrington Christmas Lights Switch On – 18th November 2010

The Old Market Place Warrington will see an evening of entertainment hosted by Wire FM. with Father Christmas visiting.

The Warrington Christmas Light Switch On will take place at 7.30pm, by Lucie Jones of the X factor.

Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet Christmas Lights Switch On – 12th November 2010

Cheshire Oaks are claiming to have Britain’s Biggest Christmas Tree this year. As ever there will be an packed evening of entertainment with top pop acts to be confirmed.

Knutsford Christmas Lights Switch On and Christmas Market – Thursday 2nd December 2010

Knutsford Town Council, http://www.knutsfordtowncouncil.gov.uk/ , is combining this year’s Christmas Light Switch On with their very first Christmas Market.

Celebrations will take place from 1pm right through to 9pm on 2nd December 2010.

Stalls at the new Christmas Market are still available.

Sensory Awareness Day:
Christmas!

Enjoy a special day at Chester Zoo with themed activities and garden walks.

On four days throughout 2010, Chester Zoo will be running themed activities for all visitors, when you can enjoy tours and activities with a British Sign Language interpreter and a visual describer.

December’s event will have a Christmas theme.

The day will include a guided tour of the Zoo, a chance to meet the staff, a ride on the monorail and free time to enjoy the Zoo’s Christmas offering.

There are up to 50 stalls selling a wide range of items including costume jewellery, Militaria, Ceramics, Glass, Clocks and Watches, Postcards, Pictures and general antiques and collectables.

If you are looking to sell your items many of our dealers will be only too willing to advise on the day.

This also includes scrap gold and silver.

Admission is Adults £1.00, Concessions 70p and children are free accompanied by an adult.

Reap and Tillage: The Vikings in Cheshire

Devastating Viking raids on the east coast of England in the 8th century AD lead to their conquest of almost half the country. The Chester region’s experience was very different, with most Viking activity being peaceable and beneficial to the area.

A coin mint flourished in Chester, and trade links with other Viking settlements around the Irish Sea made the city wealthy and prosperous.

This exhibition explores the Viking Heritage of Cheshire, looking at why they came here how they lived and the evidence they have left behind.

Exhibitions include loans from national museums and important Viking sculptures from local churches.

Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, this exhibition is part of the Chester Viking Festival.
