Daigo is a former devoted cellist who finds himself without a job. He decides to move back to his hometown with his wife to look for work and start afresh.

He answers a classified ad entitled Departures, thinking it’s for a travel agency, only to discover that the job is actually for a “Nokanshi” or “encoffineer”: a funeral professional who prepares deceased bodies for burial and entry into the next life.

Winner of the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2009 Oscars.

Six-year-old Stefek challenges fate.

He believes that the chain of events he sets in motion will help him get closer to his father who abandoned his mother. His sister Elka, 17, helps him learn how to bribe fate with small sacrifices.

Tricks and coincidences eventually bring the father to the mother’s doorstep but things go wrong.

In despair, Stefek tries his good luck with the most risky of his tricks.

Stop Frame Animation Workshop

Twin Vision is an internationally renowned multi media charity, who will deliver a one day animation workshop to introduce young people to filmmaking through the creation of short ‘Wallace and Grommit’ style animated films.

48 Hour Film Challenge

2010 sees the return of the region’s original 2day film-making challenge!

Venue: St Mary’s Centre and on location!

Registered teams have just 48 hours to script, shoot and edit a short film.

The challenge is open to teams and individuals; all you need is energy, enthusiasm and ideas. You will need to provide your own equipment to make your film; this could be your mobile phone, digital camera, or animation software.

Exhibition:
‘Spirit of Place’ – Landscapes of the North West
An Exhibition of Fine Art Landscape Photography by John Eastwood

Entitled ‘Spirit of Place’ a new photographic exhibition at Castle Park Arts Centre in Frodsham, Cheshire, draws upon the richly evocative landscapes of the North West and seeks to portray something of the extraordinary in our natural environment. Fine art landscape photographer John Eastwood, has spent much of the last year putting together a new collection of his work that he hopes will convey not only a sense of the inspirational but also a sensitivity to the environment that surrounds us.

John Eastwood is a Fine Art Landscape Photographer from Stockport who specialises in revealed images from the landscapes of the North West – the natural images and scenes we chance upon in our everyday lives that evoke a sense of place and story. John is the official photographer of All Saints’ Church, Daresbury, Cheshire (the birthplace of Lewis Carroll) and he exhibits widely across the region in galleries, commercial exhibitions and County/Country Shows. His work has been published by the National Trust and he was recently commissioned by Halton Borough Council to design the Civic Christmas Card. His work has been featured and reproduced in a variety of books and magazines and his limited edition fine art prints are widely collected and much sought after.
