Chester has a large number of libraries for the size of the city, where people in Chester can visit and borrow books, carry out research, use the internet, and enjoy community projects.Although not an exhaustive list, here is a spotlight on a few of the Libraries in the city of Chester.

Bishop’s High Library


The Bishop’ High Library contains a great deal of books on numerous subjects, as well as computers, DVD’s, a Leaflet Service, Photocopier, Reading group and Talking books.

Opening Times:

Monday and Thursday: 2.00pm to 7.00pm

There are also evening homework clubs on weekdays for students.

Blacon Library


Blacon Library is an important and integral part of the community,  supplying everything from books to borrow to the use of Internet, computers, Fax, DVD’s, Playstation2, talking books and even a storytime for the kids.

Chester Library


Chester Library offers more than most of the libraries in the region, it even offers a family history service!

With books, computers, Playstation2 and PSP, CD’s, DVD’s, Internet, European information, Local studies and much more this certainly is more than a simple library – it is a focal point for the community in the centre of Chester.

Great Boughton Library

Located right next to Oldfield Primary School, Great Boughton Library serves a large community who enjoy many great services from this library.

The library offers CD-ROMs, Fax, Computers, DVDs, Leaflet Service, Photocopier, PS2 and Talking books.

Tuesday and Friday: 9.30am to 1.00pm, 2.00pm to 5.00pm
Wednesday:  closed

As well as these great libraries, there are also a number of other libraries that offer a wealth of services for the communities in which they are situated near Chester.These libraries include Hoole Library, Lache Library, Malpas Library, Tarvin Library, Tattenhall Library and Upton Library.

There is also a Police Community Support Officer surgery from 1.00pm to 2.00pm on the first Tuesday of every month - a great way to get to know your local police community support officers.
